5E Pulpy Sci-Fantasy Sandbox - RANDUNSAN
I'd like to run a 5th Edition sandbox with a pulpy fantasy style, ranging from weird sword-n-sorcery to Barrier Peaks or even early Final Fantasy. The impulse started when I created the map below. Then I got the urge to run something, anything on that map.
The world's name is indeed RANDUNSAN for the Random Dungeon Sandbox to be found therein. I don't think we'll start on Dino or Robot Isle (names TBA) but interested parties should vote for a starting region and feel free to ask what some of the areas are like.
3-6 players is a nice target group size to start. No 5E or sandbox game experience required. ALL officially published races are allowed, as well as races and class options from Unearthed Arcana articles. If UA content was republished and revised in another book we'll use the updated version. Also the "Magic: The Gathering" races made for 5E can be found on the WotC site, and are also open for use.
UPDATED with a roughly labeled version!

I can't play, but that map rawks!
Artistic cartography! Is that a thing?

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Thanks! I just photoshopped some free images onto a rough Pangaea outline, I'm working on a hand-drawn recreation that I hope is also good

Count me in and I vote for the city section of the map.

I could squeeze in a 5th ed character. Perhaps a steam punk dressed half long from the Desert of Science.

Sweet maps! Unfortunately, I can't fit another game in, 'cause this looks like it could get crazy!
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

I'm game for it! I haven't played much 5e, but I have the core books. Are there any supplements you'd recommend for pulpy sci-fi character creation, or are we free to wing it?

Welcome Pulp!
No particular supplement I can think of, but I trust you to wing it. I should have a blurb up soon with further introduction.
My mental image of the urbanized region, where we'll likely begin, as well as the not-too-distant desert whence our halfling hails:

Re: 5E Pulpy Sci-Fantasy Sandbox - RANDUNSAN
The Historical Setup:
"In the Long Ago Days, there was a vast Kingdom. The ruler, King Quest, was fair and beloved by all, but possessed a bold and adventurous spirit. He would send soldiers on journeys of great peril, and eventually began to lead these missions himself. Wherever King Quest slayed a dragon or overthrew a tyrant, he established part of his kingdom there. When the journeys had taken King Quest further and further from home, and his expanding empire stretched to its barest resources, the once great civilization collapsed. Now the lands of the Kingdom exist only as city-states, rogue republics, and trade alliances.
Since then, “quest” has been popularly used as a derogatory term for any foolhardy errand undertaken by madmen while sane people are safe at home. However, the spirit of King Quest lives on in some folk even to this day. Some people are called to journey, to struggle, and to undertake missions of great importance.
You are wanderers in the remnants of the once great Kingdom. You seek out quests for profit and glory."

You seek out quests for profit and glory.
is that the same as coins and cleavage?
Re: 5E Pulpy Sci-Fantasy Sandbox - RANDUNSAN
I feel like the UA Artificer class makes for a good fit with a pulpy sci-fi setting. Would this get a thumb's up from the DM?

Indeed, Artificer is a nice pulpy addition.
Also thumbs up to coins & cleavage!

What posting rate are you looking for? Is there a gunslinger class available?

Re: 5E Pulpy Sci-Fantasy Sandbox - RANDUNSAN
I'm think a post at least every other day works. There are some homebrew gunslingers I haven't really looked at yet. We could possibly do a Ranger with firearms as the weapon...I'll look around and see what I can find.
Re: 5E Pulpy Sci-Fantasy Sandbox - RANDUNSAN
A Ranger/Sniper type is exactly what I had in mind. Not a big deal if that doesn't work, however, because I've also been looking forward to playing a 5th ed Barbarian.

Certainly a Ranger with Firearms will work! I've added you to the game forum.
