[Interest Check] Low Fantasy Gaming Sandbox

#1 Post by ybn1197 »

Looking to see if there is any interest in a Low Fantasy Gaming (LFG) sandbox game. The rules, for those who have not heard of them, are d20 based and freely available for download here: https://lowfantasygaming.com/freepdf/. We will be using the Midlands sandbox setting created by the author of the game. As this is Low Fantasy, there are only 5 classes in the book and human is the only available race (differentiated by culture). There is an addition 3 classes available on the author's website above. The classes are:
  • Barbarian
  • Bard
  • Fighter
  • Magic-user
  • Rogue
  • Artificer (additional class)
  • Monk (additional class)
  • Ranger (additional class)
Attributes are the same as D&D except there is no Wisdom score. Wisdom has been replaced by Perception (Perc) and Willpower (Will). There are a few other changes but the game holds to its D&D roots.

Any takers?

I am potentially interested. A few questions, if you please.

What posting rate do you have in mind? Also, how detailed do you expect our posts to be? This would be my first game on this site so How would we handle dice rolls?

Thank you for your time.

  1. To start, its been my experience that posts will be daily, if not more. But what I really would like to see is a least every other day.
  2. I'm not looking for a book or even a chapter. Let me know what your character is doing and if there is a lot of action going on, let me know alternatives based on other people's actions.
  3. This site has its own dice roller http://www.unseenservant.com. Once the campaign begins, I will get a campaign ID to use on that site which will tie all the die rolls together.

The dice roller for character generation is for six attributes. Proceed off-line?

Hey Wiglaf!
Welcome to the forums! You will enjoy it here.
Now that you have two approved posts, you’re a full fledged member of the board.
You can get PMs and post without delay.
So again welcome, well met and be well,
—Ron—
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Thank you, Ron.

Ha, as I write this I have realized that I completely forgot to introduce myself in the proper location. My humble apologies. When I found the link to this game on Dragonsfoot I'm afraid that I became quite target-locked. I shall remedy this lack now.

No, each character starts with one automatic score of 15. Then, roll 4d6 totalling the highest three dice (ie drop the lowest die). Make this roll six times and note the results. Use WIS on the character sheet as WILL and note your PERCEPTION score as the first line of Background.

Are the six roles assigned in order or can they be moved around?

If I may be so bold as to ask; how long do you expect it to be before the game is set up? If it will be a few days or a week before we see your full set up then I'll gladly use the time to read the Midlands PDF and start working on some potential background ideas. I'd rather we not get too far into the small details until you have had a chance to set everything up to your liking. :)

It will probably be a week till everything is up and running. I ordered a hard copy from Lulu (which I prefer over PDF, my eyes aren't as young as they used to be) and with the holidays approaching I can't devote as much time to setup as I would like. We currently have 4 players and I would like to see if there are any more interested; though I will run the game with 4.

Timing sounds good to me, it will give me a chance to read through the rules. Do you have a link to the different human cultures? I couldn't seem to find them.

The cultures are found in the Midlands Campaign Setting. I will provide brief summaries on them later today.

Hi

I'm interested if you are still looking for players?

Looks like I have a few days to read up on the rules and the campaign setting.
