Gathering interest - Lords of Darkness (AD&D 2nd ed)

I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.

All fine! Thanks for making the first post in-game and officially getting us started!

Maybe we could add a OOC thread and a PC thread to the game sub-forum? Then everything will be in one place. Will post up Teaeyrns entrance latter today when I have a bit more time.

I started this game with the intent of keeping as much as possible in character with OOC comments separated by parentheses. What else would the OOC thread and PC thread contain?

We don't need a OOC thread then. I was thinking a PC thread would be good to have everyone's PC's in one place inside the campaign forum.

You mean like a Cast of Characters? Yes, I've done that before and I'm open to it again. For this adventure, we may not need it. The duration of this adventure is scripted to be over the course of one night and there aren't many (living) characters beyond the temple staff and the antagonist.

I did 1st level, max HP, 3d6x10gp. Not sure if any of that is correct but it is what I did.

Wolfpack,
  • Starting level between 2nd and 3rd level for the character class.
  • Hit points are maximum for first level.
  • Starting gold will be based on Table 43: Initial Character Funds in the Players Handbook multiplied by 2.5 for level. Add one magic item, subject to approval.

ok then my rolls

HP for 2nd level : [1d6] = 6

gold: [2d6] = 8

HP: 12
gold :200

for my magic item I would like a cloak of displacement

also what is the price of silver arrows and a silver short sword?

All the stats are fine as well as the cloak of displacement. I consider the cloak to be an uncommon magical item, where the following categories have these frequencies:

Common 70%
Uncommon 20%
Rare 7.5%
Very rare 2.5%

Silver tipped arrows are rare items. Roll 1d100, if the result is less than or equal to 8%, then they are available but will cost 3d4 times more than normal arrows.

No worries, and in complete disclosure, you are better off without them for this mini-adventure. I will defer to Rex for his expertise in chemistry but as far as I understand, among the many combinations of silver alloys, none have the tensile strength suitable for weapons. Although silver daggers are common, they are basically ritual items not intended for combat.

Yes silver is a poor choice for weapons in the real world, I suppose a heavy enough blade on a dagger might be good for a few fights against an unarmored foe. In fact it is even a poor choice in firearms with the exception of saboted rounds or shot. But of course we aren't playing in the real world.

My apologies, but I was not familiar with the cloak of displacement and now realize it will significantly unbalance the game. I must reverse my decision on the cloak of displacement.

I can offer it as any of the following magical items:

Cloak of Protection +1
Cloak of Animal Kinship
Cloak of Healing
Camouflage Cloak

Alternatively, perhaps you would like to give the cloak of displacement to the main villain and your character can earn it through by defeating the villain?

So you are now good to go Tom!
But SB will still have to add you to his game :)

Have fun!
--Ron--
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.
