Interest Check - A Paladin in Hell

#1 Post by Zhym »

Norjax's thread alerted me to the existence of the module "A Paladin in Hell" by Monte Cook. The module looks like great fun. In addition to the iconic scene from the AD&D 1e PHB, you also get to encounter Emirikol the Chaotic!

Is anyone interested in playing this module? I'll run it if no one else wants to, or happily slot in as a player in someone else's game. If I run it, it'll be AD&D 1e (almost no UA) or OSRIC. Players will start somewhere between 15th and 20th level depending on class and how many players we get and would have an almost obscene level of magic at their disposal. The Staff of the Magi, Vorpal Blade, and Holy Sword are all possibilities. When you're going to hell, you need all the help you can get.

What do you think?

Here's more information, from the beginning of the module:
When the ADVANCED DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS® Player's Handbook was first published in 1978, it included an illustration titled "A Paladin in Hell." Most printings put the title of the piece at the bottom of the page.

For many people, this illustration defined the paladin character class. The image of a lone holy warrior fighting off a horde of fiends right there in the pit of Hell was both an evocative icon and a powerful ideal. It told us that a paladin would fight against any odds, never swerving in his devotion to the forces of good and justice and his opposition to evil and darkness.

This adventure takes its name from that illustration. The intention is to capture the devotion of the truly honorable and good and the wonder and mystery of strange places. The player characters must travel to Hell aboard a demon ship to rescue the wrongfully condemned soul of a paladin and restore a trapped temple and its innocent inhabitants to the Prime Material Plane.
PCs would start with somewhere around 2,500,000 XP and about 50,000 XP worth of magic items each. That might go up or down based on how many people sign up.

Count me in please. With Ravenloft ending, I think I can squeeze one more game in.

I have an idea for a David Carradine-esque monk.

I don't think I've ever played a character at that kind of power level. Deal me in.

Awesome! So far we have:

GreyWolfVT
Inferno
Urson
raven4544
AleBelly (from PM)

Maybe: Norjax

If we get one more (or if Norjax switches to a "yes") we're a go. I'll cap the group at about 8.

I'm planning on twice per week. Maybe three times per week during combat. I definitely don't have time for a faster posting schedule.

It may take a while to move through the module at that rate, but I'm hoping to find ways to streamline combat so it doesn't take forever.

You know me just about any posting rate works for me unless you start wanting postings like 10 times a day. ;)

A nice steady 2-4 times a week works for me. Heck even once a day 5 days a week works. :D

If there's still room, deal me in....if not, I'm happy to wait on the sidelines!

I think I've said this before, but I'm much more available during the week than during weekends...but I think I can handle two or three times a week most of the time. If there's ever a need to take actions for me, I trust you Zhym.

Everyone who has signed up has been added to the forum (Norjax, I'll add you when I get a yea or nay). Feel free to go to the character creation thread there and start discussing character choices!
