[Open] Star Trek Adventure Gaming
Re: Classic Star Trek open campaign
Awesome. Babble I'm good at!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Re: [LFP, PC replacements] Star Trek Adventure Gaming
Hi all,
We've got two PC slots open in my original series-era Star Trek game, due to some players having to re-prioritize their gaming schedules. The post rate is 2-3 times a week, leaning closer to 2 times a week. We're anywhere from 1/3 - 2/3 of the way through the adventure, depending on which directions the party takes. The two characters open for play are:
The USS Janus has gone to the primitive world of Coxa II to check up on some orbital surveillance equipment, experienced some unexplained anomalies, and have discovered a group of civilian Earth humans who have been secretly living on the planet posing as gods. The away team has captured four imposters and is now making its way back to the landing shuttle before further shenanigans break loose.
Let me know if you would like to jump in with either of these PCs!

Potential replacements found, thanks everyone.
Re: [Closed] Star Trek Adventure Gaming
No official waitlist at the moment, but I'll keep you next up if there's another open slot. If there's continued interest after this adventure to do more missions, I'm very open to bringing back the idea of running this as an open campaign, but I'm not sure if I'll stick to the traditional concept of having all players on one ship, or doing something that allows players to have a bit more independence in their choices. IRL my group's got a game going that revolves around a single large frontier sector with a new Federation starbase, but it's got more of a wargame vibe, with each player taking their own ship during a scenario.
Not sure how well that would work here, but it's certainly an idea. I do like the idea of doing a Star Trek meets Keep on the Borderlands game.

I may be interested in joining if you get another game together.

I'll put you on the new list!
Wow, that's one massive campaign. I think I've found my new lurking spot.

Main game forum: viewforum.php?f=219
I'm opening the game again after a holiday/work hiatus, and looking for up to 3 players to bolster the ranks. The crew have gone through the initial investigation, gotten into trouble a couple of times, narrowly escaped, and are now poised to hit the major climax of the adventure: a short dungeon crawl on a remote planet, a race against pirates to find lost science hidden within the ruins of a long-dead civilization.
Here's the adventure synopsis so far: viewtopic.php?f=219&t=4162
I'm using Star Trek Adventure Gaming in the Final Frontier (1978), the first Star Trek licensed RPG. It's your typical old school sci-fi game, very simple, and merges the TOS/TAS Star Trek theme with the usual dungeon crawling aesthetic.
We already have an Engineering officer, Science officer and Medical officer, and the Captain is an NPC. There's still room for Communications, Helmsman, Navigation, and of course, plenty of Security crew.
Let me know if you're interested!

Re: [Closed] Star Trek Adventure Gaming
It's that time again! I need some brave souls (say, 2-4) willing to dust off their 1960s Star Fleet uniforms and enter into the maw of a Star Trek dungeon of technological terror. We're down to 1.5 players (one is on hiatus for a couple of months and will be NPCed during that time), so we need some fresh blood to finish this adventure. You'll be jumping in right at the good part.
Our landing party has just recently run the inevitable course of the module, and now stands before the main and final attraction: a short but deadly dungeon in the form of a ruined outpost of the technologically advanced Slaver Empire, now dead for millions of years. These two posts provide a quick breakdown of the overall setting and what's happened in the adventure.
Characters: Medical officer and science officer are taken, but other roles are fair game except the Captain and XO. You can be a single officer or a pair of cannon fodder red shirt ensigns.
Rules: This early and obscure Star Trek game is pretty simple and has a certain 70s wargame feel to it. Combat is split into melee and phasers: shooting involves rolling 1D6 on a table to hit, then rolling damage dice; melee attacks don't roll to hit, you just roll damage dice vs defending dice and taking the difference in damage (if there is any). Most non-combat checks are similar to GURPS, where you roll 3D6 under your 3-18 attribute score to succeed.

Engineering officer is now also taken.
That leaves these as kosher options for PC officer roles: Navigation, Security, Helm/Weapons, Communications, & of course redshirt ensigns.
Specialist blue shirts are also a possibility, say ship historian or botanist.

You had me at '60s Star Trek'
If you'll have me, I fancy giving either Security officer or potentially Red shirt ensigns a crack. How does the 'cannon-fodder' play compared to an officer character?

Re: [Open] Star Trek Adventure Gaming
There aren’t any special rules for it, other than ensigns will largely have lower ratings and individually are more likely to die because they come in greater numbers.
It’s also probably good form to play ensigns with a healthy dose of reckless bravado. After all, this is Star Fleet and they like crew who take initiative—and anyway, the ensigns come as a pair, so it’s like having two lives!

Re: [Open] Star Trek Adventure Gaming
Playing the redshirts sounds like fun then. I can do reckless bravado. And it goes without saying that the security team will have to put themselves in the line of fire. After all, their job is to keep the officers (PCs) alive. They will aspire to perform well enough to earn recognition/commendations and medals and maybe even to survive
So, does that work for you? If so, what's next? Do I need to create a couple of ensigns, or do you roll them up?
PS. If it works better from your perspective for me to do a Security Officer character, I'm happy to go that route too. I already have a couple of ideas but I like the sound of playing the redshirts and it seems like redshirts might make more sense than a new officer as you're mid-mission.

Sounds good to me!
Right now that gives us our medical officer, engineering chief, science officer (NPCed while he's on vacation), and a pair of redshirts. I'll invite you to the game and we'll sort out your characters in the character creation thread.

Re: [Open] Star Trek Adventure Gaming
I'd say we could take one more PC, if anyone's interested.
A communications officer or history specialist would probably be best, since there's very little chance that the rest of this module will take place in a spaceship.
