Cyberpunk social change

A little different twist on the old cyber/magepunk trope: you're a band of social justice workers trying to effect improvements in the lives of ordinary people who suffer under the repressive magitech industrial regime of Govcorp. See the images below for half of the character generation, and sample missions.

I will post full rules (the additional character creation page) in the game forum if we get enough interest for this.
One popcultural point for the first person to name both lyrics that are quoted.
Neil Gaiman: "I started imagining a world in which we replaced the phrase 'politically correct' wherever we could with 'treating other people with respect', and it made me smile."..."I know what you’re thinking now. You’re thinking 'Oh my god, that’s treating other people with respect gone mad!'"

Ok. The Barsoom game never quite clicked for me (I lacked setting knowledge), but I think this one might. Sometimes cyberpunk gets a little uncomfortable for me because of how damn prophetic Gibson's nightmare vision was, so I like the idea of trying to have a small but finite positive effect on the state of the world.

I agree, roleplaying is about empowerment and if I can't fix the world, I might as well pretend to! :D I'm also very interested in the 24xx system, as you know :)

I like the premise and could be tempted if the expected posting rate isn't too high.

Let's keep this one easy-going, I am in fast posting games over on rpg.net and on discord, and while the dopamine hits are fun it is not something I want to do for every game I'm in.

I will ask for a forum since we have three interested players.

I'm curious about this. I see there's both tech and magic, what's the world background? Is character generation random or are characters built? I ask because the Witch seems to imply that spells are random.

Good point! Actually the spells are numbered 1-6 4 times, what's up with that? :)

Ah, to answer Lance's question that's an old school random lookup trick. Roll 1-3/4-6 twice to pick a table, i.e. 1,3 would be the first table, 2,5 the second, and 4,2 would be the third table. Then roll 1d6 on that table.

Characters are built by picking specialty, form, and skills / spells. Then you roll for flavor and wealth, and purchase gear. I'll post full rules in the game forum.

This game is based on https://jasontocci.itch.io/2400, which is imo a wonderful game engine and series of interlinked settings.

If you have a specialty or form that can use spells, you have access to all the spells at d6 ability. You may upgrade some random spells to d8,and you also could choose to spend one or more skill upgrades to raise other spells to d8. (Edit to add: you even could upgrade a random spell further, to d10.)

The setting is kind of futurish - imagine today's technology and politics, amped up to 11. Add magic, including trolls and undead. (There are no elves, dragons, etc.).

Wears a leather jacket and carries a briefcase. Also has an amulet (break 1x to cancel any spell), a talisman of Healing (d10), a prosthetic face (illegal, gain Anonymity and Deception at d8), and 1Credit.

It sounds interesting. I'll keep an eye on this and once the full rules are posted in the forum I'll see if it looks like I can make a character I'd be happy with.

Relatively quick uptake for this one!
