Slow response / errors?

#1 Post by Zhym »

Is anyone else seeing really slow page loads or pages that eventually fail to load at all? It seems to be happening a lot for me recently. Here's an example of a message I get when a page fails to load:

Yes.

It doesn't happen all the time, but definitely enough to notice.

I have been seeing that for a while now.

I also sometimes get this after a long wait:
ERROR 504 - GATEWAY TIMEOUT

Why am I seeing this page?

The server that your request has reached is acting as a gateway or proxy to fulfil the request made by your client.

Web Browser => Web Front-End => Web Back-End

This server (Web Front-End) received an invalid response from an upstream (Web Back-End) server it accessed to fulfil the request.

In most cases this will not mean that the upstream server is down, but rather that the upstream server and the gateway/proxy do not agree on the protocol for exchanging data.

This problem is most commonly caused when there is a problem with IP communications between the Web Front and Back-Ends. Before you attempt to resolve this problem you should clear your browser cache completely.

Our support staff will be happy to assist you in resolving this issue. Please contact our Live Support or reply to any Tickets you may have received from our technicians for further assistance.

I am aware of the problems. I've called the hosting company and they continually give me the run around, blaming it on anything but their own, over sold servers and bandwidth. I'd like to move to a different host, but it's such a pain and can be troublesome to move a forum like this with so many posts. I'd hate to lose something or all of the site.

Fyi, I also experienced those same error messages before Thanksgiving.

I haven't gotten any today.

I hadn't run into this since sometime last week when I was unable to get the website to even load so i could login.

As ToniXX likes to put it, "USS is running snappy today"!
Snappy must be some techie term us Social Workers don't know...

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

It's really snappy for me now but I acknowledge that there are times that it can be painfully slow. Most of those times have only been temporary.
