Oddity with my account
Re: Oddity with my account
Browser Testing
System: Macbook running macOS Sierra 10.12.4 (16E195)
---
Opera 44.0.2510.857
- This is the browser all observations have been made using.
Google Chrome Version 58.0.3029.81 (64-bit)
- This appears to be working correctly?! I will test more shortly.
Firefox 52.0
- Same issue, but I noticed something interesting. AleBelly showed up as being logged in while I was logged in using Chrome (which I am replying in now), the last browser used before testing Firefox. Now, when I log into Firefox, I'm logged in as AleBelly.
Safari Version 10.1 (12603.1.30.0.34)
- Same issue; still logged in as AleBelly.

Nope. Maybe upon initial login, but it's janky now that I attempt to do anything.dmw71 wrote:Google Chrome Version 58.0.3029.81 (64-bit)

Yikes.
Re: Oddity with my account
It may be a caching thing. Now I show up as me at all screens, but—until just now—they almost all showed me as having 1 inbox pm. Now it shows zero, but when I got to my inbox it shows a message I've already read and replied to as new.
Re: Oddity with my account
Here's what I see at various places:
View your posts: 1 new message, top post is from 12:43 am
View new posts: 0 new messages, top post is dmw71's in this thread at 1:03
View unread posts: 0 new messages, dmw71's most recent post in this thread is at 1:01
View active topics: 1 new message, top post is from Storm11 at 12:43.
Board Index > Help and Support > Oddity with My Account: 0 new messages, shows my 1:09 post as the most recent. 0
Did someone replace "View unread posts" with "View undead posts?"

Re: Oddity with my account
Oh, this is wacky. I've been using Firefox for the testing (and I usually use Firefox for US). I opened a new Safari session and went to unseenservant.us. As expected, I wasn't logged in. I clicked "View active topics" and it shows me logged in as me—without having logged in! If I try to log out, it says I've logged out, and then the next screen has me logged in again.
The extra wacky part? I don't think I've actually logged in to US in Safari all night. So maybe there's some IP address session confusion going on, too.

Re: Oddity with my account
Okay, one last bit of debugging: check the timestamp on each page. For the pages listed above, here's what I see in Firefox:
View your posts: 12:57 am
View new posts: 1:04 am
View unread posts: 1:02 am
View active topics: 12:47 am
Board Index: 12:28 am
I just fired up the Tor browser, which I've never used to access US, and when I went to unseenservant.us (though an exit node in Germany) it showed me logged in as AleBelly, page timestamp 11:41 pm.
I've done further tests in multiple browsers for multiple source IPs and the page timestamp seems to be a reliable indicator of what's going on (whatever that is).
Finally: from a stale page (i.e., one with a timestamp that's older than the current time), the little icon on the right to go to the latest post seems to load the current, uncached version of a page. The little page icon on the left to view first unread post loads an old page, as does clicking on the thread title.
Not that you will see this post unless you're looking for it, until caches time out.

Re: Oddity with my account
We talked a bit about this last night, but I don't think it would let me post as Eclipse - who I kept showing up as being on Chrome. But not on Safari or Edge. Weird.ToniXX wrote:When you are logged in as another user, can you post as that user?

Re: Oddity with my account
Too weird. Despite my doppelganger, I'm still me.
But "View new posts" and View your posts" are wonky for me too. They don't register that I've read or posted anything.

Re: Oddity with my account
Check the page time stamps. I think you're looking at older, cached pages. They just aren't your older, cached pages.
Re: Oddity with my account
Oh, and if you're using firefox, try cmd-shift-R (on Mac) or "Ctrl + F5" or "Ctrl + Shift + R" (or Windows or Linux) at a page that looks wrong. That should replace it with the correct, current page. Other browsers should also have commands to do a cache-overwriting reload (maybe with the same key combination, maybe not).
There's still something weird going on on the server side, I think, but this is a client-side workaround.

Re: Oddity with my account
Today I'm not experiencing this issue at all in chrome from my Android cellphone. I did also clear from the beginning of time all history and caches in my browser.

Woke up in the wrong bed.
This was weird: I went to my mailbox, and found myself in Inferno's mailbox instead. I was logged in as myself, had just posted as myself, and when I refreshed, I was back in my own mailbox.
So, the problem was quickly resolved, but I thought you folks might want to know that such an unexpected hiccup occurred.

Re: Oddity with my account
I got to be Pulpatoon just now. I was Tiglath earlier. The issue appears to be simply more than just cached data on our browsers it must be something on the server as well or at least that is my IT Guy educated guess.

Re: Oddity with my account
From the conversation in the posts above this seems to be an issue that you are aware of but I'd just like to report I have been logged on as Pulpatoon today. I had access to his messages (which I did not read!) but clearly something is awry. I have found myself unable to edit my own posts despite being apparently logged in.
Lordy, I've now just become GreyWolfVT!

Re: Woke up in the wrong bed.
yes Pulpatoon we are all experiencing this issue as there are two other threads about this here in the help and support. Tonixx may have to look into the server.

Re: Oddity with my account
Thanks for the input on all of this, guys. As I think we've determined, this is a server side cache error. It could not have happened at a worse time in my life, as my wife and I are preparing to move into a new house on Monday and we're trying to get ready for that. I'll try to call the hosting company today and see what they say. I'm sure, though, that they will claim that it's not their problem and that its a PHPBB forum thing, blah blah blah.

The workaround I posted above still seems to be working...around, if you want to make an announcement post about it.
Re: Woke up in the wrong bed.
Yeah. Weirdness. I woke up in Dave's bed this morning. Boy was his wife surprised!
