"View your posts"
"View your posts"
Does anyone else here use "View your posts" to keep up with your games? Have any of you noticed threads not showing up in that view when they should? That's been happening to me a lot over the past few days: threads in which I've posted sometimes don't show up in "View your posts." As far as I can tell, the threads would be at the top of the page if they showed up, and it's only one thread at a time. It's even happening in games I DM. It's intermittent. Sometimes threads don't show up, but usually they do. If a thread doesn't show up, though, it's persistent between refreshes. Posting (anywhere, not necessarily in the thread that doesn't show up) seems to fix the problem for a given hidden thread.

Re: "View your posts"
Interesting. I don't use that feature so I can't say if I'm having the same problem. I'd be curious if anyone else if also experiencing this, or if Zhym is just crazy.

This gets my vote.ToniXX wrote:...or if Zhym is just crazy.
I use the 'View your posts' link on occasion, but not enough to notice if something was missing. I'll have to start paying attention to it.
Re: "View your posts"
The two possibilities are not mutually exclusive.

I've experienced this a few times.Zhym wrote:Does anyone else here use "View your posts" to keep up with your games? Have any of you noticed threads not showing up in that view when they should?
I've also seen others mention it; this being just the latest example:

Re: "View your posts"
I've never researched anything with the "View your posts" functionality, so I can't properly comment as to how it works or whether or not it always works. If it is a big enough issue, though, I'd be happy to look into it.

That said, Inferno, the issue you linked to isn't quite the same thing.
I won't say "never", but I've not yet ever been able to confirm a verified issue with the site not sending notifications properly to users on this forum (or any other forum I'm on that uses the phpBB forum software; I'm active on two others, one of which is not D&D related).
It can almost always be traced back to the user receiving a notification of post message, them deleting it but not going to the forum, and then them not receiving any more notifications because they haven't visited that part of the forum to reset the notifier process. I helped the site admin on one of the other sites perform extensive testing of the feature because people complained about it. We tried for months to get it to fail, using it during peak times and off times and trying to duplicate exactly what people were saying caused the issue.
The *only* time we could ever confirm new notification messages were not sent was when one was already sent for that folder or thread and the user did not go back to that folder/thread to reset the notifier.
I feel confident this is going to be the case 99% of the time. Does software fail or break? Yes. But I don't think this function of the forum software is so buggy that it constantly has trouble sending notifications.

This is a post about the user not receiving the e-mail notification of a post being made in a folder or thread they are following.Inferno wrote: I've also seen others mention it; this being just the latest example:

Thanks.
Thanks. How do you guys determine if something is a big enough issue?Alethan wrote:If it is a big enough issue, though, I'd be happy to look into it.

You gonna quit the forum because of it?Inferno wrote:Thanks.

Kidding. Umm... Is it breaking games? Are people throwing painstakingly painted minifigs? Are players actually quitting a game out of frustration? (I joked before, but... is it happening?)
If lots* of people complain about it enough, I suppose. Not really sure.
Understandably, the inability to organize games such that you can easily review the ones you are in is one of the biggest complaints we have on the forum. It is something we've looked into resolution for several times and have never been successful in finding anything that works. That means the two best functions for keeping track of your games are the notification reminders and the "View Your Posts" function. If there is an issue with "View Your Posts", then it causes frustration.
I'll try and see if there are any known issues with the function on the pbpBB website first and figure out where to go from there.
Also, keep in mind that "looking into it" doesn't at all guarantee resolution. Just effort.

Understood.

Re: "View your posts"
Well... I found some minor issues with it not working at all after certain version upgrades, but nothing about intermittent functionality issues. I guess it might help if anyone has an issue with the View Your Posts not working and they take a screen shot of it and then point out what posts aren't showing, we might be able to research it better.Inferno wrote:Understood.

Without the live example, though, it's difficult.
