Please place all finished characters here. Campaign ID# is 245.

Vornheim is a city of thousands of guilds, the push and pull of which drive everything--politics, economy, fashion, religion. The players start as new members of the Delvers Guild, a company of vagabonds who take on odd jobs that would lead them all over Vornheim, from its highest towers to its cavernous foundations, and even outside its massive gated walls, in pursuit of strange legends and treacherous secrets.

Character Creation Guidelines:
  • Characters will be made with Labyrinth Lord, Advanced Edition Companion races and classes.
  • Stats will be decided by rolling 4d6 and dropping the lowest result. Maximum hit points for first level, roll the rest on the dice roller.
  • All characters will begin with 40k experience, and multi-classing is allowed.
  • Gold--we'll stick with the book's 3d8x10, but +20 gold for already being established Delvers.
  • Languages--in the World Between, "Common" is the same as "Tradespeak", and may be referred to as either. In addition to racial languages, players can choose from national languages. All PCs receive Tradespeak and Caligarian for free. A list of available national languages is here.
  • Spellcasters--Send me a list of the spells you'd want to fill your per-day slots, and I'll get back to you. Chances are I'll approve it. I'll also provide with any extra spells that might be idling in your spellbook.
  • Character will begin with one magic item (or a set of small magic items), determined by the DM.
Backgrounds: Before you were a professional Delver, you were this. All background options grant a slight Stat adjustment, and most give some thematically appropriate starting gear. Roll d100 or pick one that appeals to you--though rolling is a good way to get randomly inspired!

Dark Secrets: Ominous deeds and events that lurk in your character's past, eternally lingering on the periphery of your mind. Taken right from classic Gothic and thematically inspirational literature! Secrets so bone-chillingly dreadful, I dare not explain them aloud! Roll two individual d6 and two individual d10, and I will PM you two results. Then you can choose which horrible thing you prefer.

So I chose noble and here's my sheet (work in progress) with a lengthy background. Also, my rolls as requested:

Ominous deeds and events: [2d6] = 7 and [2d10] = 11

oops, maybe you wanted this:

Ominous deeds and events: [1d6] = 6 [1d6] = 6 [1d10] = 8 [1d10] = 2

Cool character, jellyfish.

With only 3-4 players, I don't know if we need two thieves. You posted your sheet first, so I'll have a think about another character idea. :)

My apologies Inferno! I had not realized that I shouldered you out of the thief option.

Question about equipment: how much gold do we start out with? Aside from the special equipment granted by our roles, any other considerations?

No problem. Also, double check the rules. I think you might be 7th level.

I might still go with a fighter-thief. The personas and their roles in a party would be very different. Pondering...

For gold we'll stick with the book's 3d8x10, but +20 gold for already being established Delvers.

Ack. I miscalculated starting xp. I should have said 40,001 points. :)

Ha! 1 XP point shy... would need 40001 to be 7th level.

Okay, I got:

Starting gold roll: [3d8] = 21

so that's 230gp.

Hello all!

I was thinking of a gnome illusionist that uses magic to mask itself. However, assuming demihuman level restrictions are in play, starting XP will put him one level below the cap, and he'll never be able to cast a spell higher than the 3rd level spells he'll start with. Level 4 has some very evocative spells that fit the setting, like Phantasmal Killer and Phantasmal Monsters, and they only get cooler from there (Summon Shadow, anyone?). Therefore, if the level restrictions are in place I'll just roll a human and color appropriately (with the GM's permission). Another option would be to multiclass as an assassin/illusionist.

Actually I'll look at that restrictions thing closer this weekend--we might be able to work something out. If anyone else has thoughts, chime in.

All your suggested concepts sounds like they'd fit right in here though. If you want to look at the Backgrounds or roll for a Dark Secret in the meantime, that might help shape your ideas as well.

Oh, also if you go Human, there are some Backgrounds that could simulate a fey connection--Caliban might work if you want monstrous!

Awesome. On further reflection, for a straight Illusionist a Human is probably better--removing the level restrictions makes a Gnome significantly more powerful than an equivalent Human (beneficial saving throws with no drawbacks). A Gnomish Illusionist/Assassin would probably work with the level restrictions, though, since there's still room to grow. Those tasty higher-level Illusionist spells may be too much to pass up, however. I'll think about it this weekend, but I'm leaning toward a Human Illusionist or a Gnomish Illusionist/Assassin.

EDIT: Caliban sounds cool (I assume this is a Shakespearian subhuman son-of-a-witch type?). Fits right in.

Yes! The Caliban Background denotes tainted blood and a deformed, outcast upbringing :D << Edit: I don't know why the smiley--this stuff is bleak!

I don't know if this one has starting gear, though most of the Backgrounds do. I'll PM you the exact details when I get in front of the PDF.

This character sheet has since been adapted - with changes in level, class and spells - into the Secrets of the Pharaohs campaign. It still resides here as a record of sorts for the previous incarnation.

I believe Fulci said he'll be busy for a few weeks, so he might be jumping in after we start, but I'm very curious what he'll choose as well! :D
