CHAPTER 3: Across the Gam’A Zone

#1 Post by Norjax »

...

The Gam'A Zone, Day 30, Early Afternoon

Having rested from last night’s activities, you make your way south to the next watch tower. A quick walk around the base of the hill discovers a fresh path cut into the side leading towards the top. A beaten trail runs from the base of the excavated path off to the northeast, disappearing into the distance.

A recon of the hill path leads to the top and ends at a flat spot with several 12” diameter holes dug down, 6 feet into the hill at several random spots. Piles of fresh dirt are about, but no other debris is present.

Actions?

Jack starts to dig with his hands at one of the fresh dirt piles then abruptly stops "You know I bet these are graves. Anyone got a shovel?"

Belial
I dunno, dude. They're like- way small for graves. Maybe somebody was searching for something.

Bruze Whane, mutant bat:

"I agree," said Bruze as he crouched on his haunches to carefully examine the strange holes. "What kind of tools, or creature, would make these shapes.?"

"Skraa," he added, using his echolocation to better "see" them.

The holes are a size common to what a hand shovel would make. Echolocation detects scraping on the walls and bottom consistent with shovel use.

Bruze Whane, mutant bat:

Bruze shares his meager findings.
"1' x 6' holes. What were they looking for? Or what were they trying to build?" he muses, as he looked out, taking in the vista from their vantage point.
(Norjax, Can we see the next hill in this chain of watchtowers?)

Then, Bruze tries to determine where an iron hatch would be, if it was in the same location as the last Watchtower.

Bart, MH

Bart muzes over the holes, pigmon latrine hole, perhaps. He lets the others unearth the holes.

To the next tower! :)

OOC: Is there an obvious entrance into the tower itself? A door...closed or open....holes in the structure, etc?

Jack "Could be anything though maybe we think of this backwards maybe they deconstructed what was here and filled in the holes after."

Then, Bruze tries to determine where an iron hatch would be, if it was in the same location as the last Watchtower.
You can see hills to the south and southeast that might be the same size as these watchtower hills, but they are too far away (5+miles) to make a concise determination.

The holes are dug on the western side of the hill, the same side as the iron hatch enclosure.

max_vale wrote:OOC: Is there an obvious entrance into the tower itself? A door...closed or open....holes in the structure, etc?
You see nothing but dirt shaped by sediment and erosion.
Grognardsw wrote:"Reckon they're good for something."

Cthul Hand Luke relieves himself in one of the holes.
Your waste water trickles and collects in the bottom of the hole, slowly seeping into the earth.

Bruze Whane, mutant bat:

"Perhaps these holes are the first step in building a hatch?" Bruze wondered as he tried to determine the age of these holes.

He takes a pole, shovel or spear from someone and bangs the bottom of a dry hole with it to see if the bottom sounds like metal.

The holes appear to have been recently dug, perhaps within the past day or two.

The bottom is packed dirt, no other material is present.

Bruze Whane, mutant bat:

"Whoever made these holes are no more than two days away," the big chiropteran said grimly as he scanned the horizon once more.

Does anyone have Tracking skill?

Frank Rock; veteran human

Frank will see if he can use his Hunting skills to figure out if anything more useful about any animals/people who might have been moving in and around the area....

OOC: I don't have Tracking; but I have a 2nd Order Hunting skill.....not sure if it applies though

CHAPTER 3: Across the Gam’A Zone

The Gam'A Zone, Day 30, Early Afternoon

Frank: OOC: I don't have Tracking; but I have a 2nd Order Hunting skill.....not sure if it applies though
I would say that Hunting includes rudimentary tracking skills, which will complement someone with dedicated tracking.
Jack "Tracking yeah I can do that and I know the law too."

Working together, Jack and Frank are able to determine that a group of 6 or more bipedal insects left the series of tracks on this hill.

Based on the depth of certain tracks, they were also responsible for digging the holes.
