CHAPTER 2: Into the Gam'A Zone

#1 Post by Norjax »

...

Into the Gam’A Zone, Day 25-26

You spend the 25th day discussing plans for entering the Gam’A Zone. This day of rest continues to heal both Bruze and Oor-zak of their combat wounds.

3 hp each; their current hp are 36 & 33 respectively.

Bruze, Heal = [1d3] = 3
Oor-zak, Heal = [1d3] = 3

On the night of the 25th day, your group moves towards to the mysterious green curtain of light that falls into the ground from somewhere high in the sky. At around 5 miles from the long route, you reach the edge of the light curtain, which you now see is comprised of multiple, parallel sheets that silently sink into the ground. These sheets are spaced 10-150 feet apart and have a cumulative width of nearly a mile. The curtain illuminates the surrounding environment, making the moonless night lit as if twilight.

Upon closer observation, the light curtain has random holes and slots devoid of visible light. As you watch the cascade, it becomes apparent that one may navigate through the curtains and avoid the illuminated green areas while traversing the mile-wide barrier.

Actions?

Edit: Curtain spacing.

An image for the barrier. Note, the red line is a cutting plane for illustrative purposes only.

The holes move down as the light streams fall.

Oor-Zak stares at the falling sheets of light, mesmorized by the flow of falling holes.

"Oor-zak wonder what happen if hit by light? Think bad things. Tricky...must move through moving holes?"

How long do the holes stay open? Would we easily be able to drive the cart through one or do they come and go quickly with a risk if getting caught while passing through?

The light curtains appear to fall at a steady rate. If one waits for the correct size/shape, driving the cart through will not be a problem. Each curtain will have to be negotiated. The curtains are 10-150 feet apart, making the count between 30 & 100.

Frank Rock, veteran Human

Frank stares at the shimmering; moving wall and nods to Oor-zak. "Yeah, I think that's probably the best idea my friend; unless anybody else has any better ideas?"; he asks the group as a whole.

Jack shrugs sighs and enters along the others looking a bit apprehensive but also a bit intrigued by the oddity of the green wall like curtains of radiation or whatever it is that borders the zone.

I suggest we stay together as a group even if this means we need to wait for a big enough bubble to pass through. I'd hate for us to get separated between the different sheets and then have some sort of encounter.

Bart, MH

"Hey, Jack... touch that stuff, see if y'mutate!" Bart booms, followed by a whistling zinger noise.

Could we load most of us in the Cart. Would it support them and could Bacon pull them? I sense a die check in are future.
Frank, Frekken, Luke, Oor-zak and Jack could go in the cart, i can continue to lead.
Blixx and Bruze should be able to fly through smaller holes and keep up. I would think this would be easier, they should have more opportunities then us on the ground.

Bart says as much to the group from ooc.

With the extra supplies captured from the pigmonn, the cart may only hold 3 people.

Cthul Hand Luke, human mutant

"I ain't keen on touching the light," says Luke. "I'd rather go under the cart, use as protection just in case."

If the light is slow enough to go through safely, Luke will walk/jog through. If there is a chance of getting hit, he suggests under the cart.
I didn't realize Chapter Two was started up  without a pointer from Chapter One.

The pace of the holes falling is slow enough to walk/jog/fly through.

Many appear large enough to crawl through.

EDIT: Added "fly".

Frekken, MA Frog

"Indeed--miraculous!" Frekken the easily astonished amphibian concurs.

"I say fit as many within the cart as we can--the rest can walk close behind. The gaps in the lightfall look a slow enough pace that we can get through safely and together..."

Bart leads the Drot Swyne and cart forward through a suitable hole in the first lightfall. No one notices any effects from passing through the curtain hole, and you wait for an opening to negotiate the next sheet. Blixx, feeling adventurous, flies straight up between the two curtains and reports the only effect for him is a slight tingling sensation the faster he moves in this zone. Ambient sound is different between the curtains and is akin to a droning, hiss at the threshold of hearing. The only movement observed is the slowly falling light curtains.

The ground you pass over between the lighfalls is devoid of any plant life and there is a slight orange hue to the sandy soil. After passing through the fifth curtain, you enter a wide, 100 foot space before the next barrier. The spacing allows a broad, lateral view of around 200 feet, before the environment is obscured by a green, plasma fog. This fog has been between every curtain, but this wide spacing makes it appear more prominent. A pile of debris can be seen almost to the edge of this fog, but no definitive details can be determined. It is the first variation to the orange sand and rocks seen thus far.

Bruze Whane, mutant bat:

Humbled and reverent before the sacred ground of Hell Jhor D’Ann's solid emerald energy, Bruze used his vocal echo-location ability to try to better comprehend the debris and the impossible, falling curtains of magic light. "SKRAAAUGH!"

Bruze analyzes the debris pile with his sonar, but he is too far away to receive a reading. When he directs his senses towards one of the emerald lightfalls, no feedback is received. This indicates the curtain is not comprised of solid matter.

Bruze’s echolocation range is 90ft.

Jack stands back and watches as the others investigate in their own way.

Luke draws his sword, light saber, and moves to investigate the debris. He notices that the green fog seems to “move” as he gets closer to its edge, constantly maintaining a 200 ft. distance from his position. At around 50 feet, Luke begins to recognize the debris and he moves in to inspect.

The debris is the carcass of a large animal, 3-4 feet long. It appears that the animal was a type rabbit. From its condition, the carcass has been harvested by a predator and has remained undisturbed for at least a week.
