The party decides a thorough search of the beds isn't worth the risk. They heft the table over their heads and return to the stalactite room. Another spike clunks off the table as Hyde opens the door in the north central wall. The party is immediately hit with the smell of overfull latrines mixed with rich earth.
The party's light penetrates 30' into the darkness, revealing a room at least that long and wide. Occupying the walls are wooden boxes the run the length of the walls as far as they can see. There are four runs of boxes along each wall, starting about three feet off the ground and spaced about two feet vertically (that is, there are boxes running the lengths of the walls at 3', 5', 7', and 9' high). The ceiling is about 15' high.
The taller folk in the party can see the contents of the two lowest runs of boxes - they are filled with edible mushrooms...apparently being cultivated as a food source.
The party is crouched under the table - no sounds are yet evident, but their walk through the stalactite room hasn't exactly been quiet either.
Actions? The 30' penetration of light is what would be expected due to the doors, shadows, etc. blocking full penetration. There is no obvious magical darkness effect evident at this point.

Yenny stands up on tip toe to peer into one of the boxes. "I'm not sure if we could, given the nature of an orc's digestive system, but perhaps there would be a way to poison the food supply? I bet adding some lettuce and a pleasant bit of fresh fruit would keeps these guys from fighting well for several days."

Seems unsure about the mushrooms. Far too many are toxic in some way or have adverse magical side effects. He gives them an expert critical eye. Once he is sure it is safe, he cautiously picks one up using a handkerchief so as not to make direct contact with it with his skin and gets a closer look.

The party begins to enter the room. As they do, various light sources show this is a 50'x50' room, with mushroom planters growing all along the sides. There is a corridor leading out of the room to the west that quickly turns north.
The party takes a look at the mushrooms. Most look edible, your run-of-the-mill button mushroom. However, several brightly colored ones are spotted - they look like juvenile versions of the shrieking mushroom encountered minutes ago. Perhaps this was the source of the follow-on screams they heard?
Hyde can't contain himself, and grabs a fistful, hoping to stew them with his favorite - pig. Kablamicus takes a more sophisticated approach, and grabs one with a handkerchief.
Hyde and Kablamicus feel slashes on their legs! A stone axe slices Hyde's calf as it finds a vulnerable joint in his armor! -4 hp!
Kablamicus feels two wounds - one superficial and another vicious! Sophomore flutters off his shoulder in alarm!! He is moderately wounded. -7 hp total!
Yenny and Dandelion's armor turn away attacks as a total of eight disgusting humanoids, with impressive speed, appear from under the mushroom boxes. Their skin is dull grey, almost the same color as the dungeon walls. They growl unintelligibly. Angus, Figgis, and Galan are quicker to react and avoid the surprise attack - but all are now in melee!

Yenny yells, "Damn mushroom farmers! Always like this, I say." as she attempts to bash the one attacking her with her flail. She is quick to respond, but swings wildly as she backs away from the mushroom bin (but not in a way that would cause an opportunity attack...just for flavor .).

They're humanoid, they attacked us, so I'm assuming these are "evil humanoids" for purposes of his bonus, not that it matters with that attack roll.
