Hmmmm... he thinks to himself from the safty of the doorway and turns his attentions to the ceiling itself looking for clues to which ones are natural stalagtites and which ones are these creatures.

"Well I sure nailed that one. Only 745 to go!" Using her light, Yenny looks for her hammer. If it landed reasonably close to the party, she picks it up. Otherwise, she'll move to the closest landed one and smack it the ground near it with her flail.

Hyde calls to the others to follow his torch – nothing fell there. As if to mock him, a spike falls from the ceiling above the torch. Its light is extinguished.
AAA! Hyde is aghast as his direction to the party could have been disastrous, and he moves to destroy those stone spikes closest to him.

To hit: [1d20+3] = 1+3 = 4

Crit: [1d100] = 16
Illness bodes!

Figgis, flustered by the falling pair of spikes, hacks at his attackers with short sword and dagger. The rookie swings wildly through the air. One strike bounces harmlessly off the spikes as they scurry back up the wall.

Steel from Hyde and Dandelion's weapons sing as they hit the wall or bounce harmlessly off the hard exterior of their enemy. Chet dashes forward, punching one squarely. Its carapace cracks, but it continues up the wall.

Yenny, seeing no other movement in her area, gathers her hammer as she warily watches above. Galan retreats to safety with Kablambicus, who looks on.

The party estimates they can all make it through the door standing ajar in the northeast corner of the room before the fallen spikes reset themselves, though Angus is suspicious. Would the easiest path forward be the best one?

Actions? The party can attack the 'fleeing' stalactites if they win initiative against them.

He follows the others to the ajar door, keeping a close eye on the ceiling as he advances out of the other threshold, making it a point to walk where the stalactites have already fallen and the path is more or less clear.

If a spike is still nearby, Hyde will hack at it. If not, he'll follow the others.

The party moves quickly through the open door to the next room. Hyde slashes at a spike as it climbs the wall with its thick, disgusting hairs.

Hyde hacks at rocky horror [1d20+3] = 5+3 = 8 crit[1d100] = 22 dmg [1d8+6] = 6+6 = 12

Figgis has no time to scout if the party wants to be sure the spikes do not descend upon them again. Angus, expecting a trap, fears the worst. Yenny shines her light as she enters with the others. This room is silent. But disturbing.

Several wooden workbenches are dispersed throughout the 30' x 50' room. Poorly constructed tools lie atop them, along with rusted metal banding and staves of wood. Other odd pieces of metal and wood are also scattered about - this was likely a 'work' room. A clue as to those doing the laboring is revealed in the form of three skeletons - one each chained to the north, south, and east walls. They are of men or women. Their vacant eyes look downward, jaws agape.

Only one other exit is visible from this room...to the north. A door hangs slightly ajar, revealing a passage beyond. Some in the party study the skeletons from a distance, perhaps expecting them to move. They continue to hang motionless, heads bowed.

Yenny fingers her holy symbol and says a prayer for the tortured dead (in Gnomish). She then advances to one of them and mutters, "I wonder how long these fellows have been hanging around."

Any indication whether they have been dead for months, years, or ...?

Cocks an eyebrow and strolls over to the skeletons got a trained look. "They're dead, Jim..." he mumbles to himself. He looks for any interesting clues about them. "They seem fine specimens. The guild could benefit from having these to study..."

Until the decision is made to move forward, Hyde will guard the exit door, peeking occasionally, hoping his darksight will function in close proximity to the light source.

The party examines the skeletons closely as Yenny prays over them. The rags hanging from them are tatters, and likely had been for some time...even when they were alive. After some discussion the party concludes they've been here about a year or so - roughly the same amount of time that had passed since Strod was retaken by man.

Meanwhile, Figgis asks Yenny to cover her light for a moment and peers ahead to the next room. He does not enter, but investigates with his dark vision. It's a square room, 50'x50'. The room appears empty, though it's impossible to tell without light. There appears to be a door in the far wall.

All the while, Hyde nervously watches the room from whence they came.
