In:

Angus
Arnulf
Chet
Yenny

This can run concurrently with the discussion at the magic item shop. Please provision and plan here - casters please let me know what spells your PC will prepare for the adventure.

1. Mounts/beast of burden. Do we wake them with us, or leave them in town? If we take them with us, should we hire someone to keep watch on them—and how strong of a force do we need? Chet and Tempus's group felled an ogre and saw a troll, so we'd probably need more than a level-1 mook.

2. Equipment. We probably need:

- Plenty of rope
- A grappling hook
- Light sources (though much of the prison seems to be lit)
- Spikes
- Something to use as ear plug, possibly (wax?)

What else should we make sure to bring?

"Good thinking on the ear wax" says Chet to Angus. "But, I already have enough earwax to save me from the screeching" he adds, smiling. He digs into his ear and wipes the tip of his finger on his robe.

"Just be prepared, this will be like nothing you've ever experienced before!"

Hah! Hyde smiles from ear to ear. Literally. That be a good plan, Chet! He begins digging in his own ears. How far is this place? He continues to chat up the Monk. I got 9 days food with me, do I be needin' more?

Hyde has 50' of rope, no grappler, 9 torches and 12 spikes, but no hammer to rap them in.

"I've got eight days' worth of food, so I think nine is plenty!" replies Chet. "It's about 15 miles to get there, so we can get there in a day. A lot of it is along the road, which should help us a little bit."

For planning purposes, the party will have learned from Tempus, if not Chet, that following the road 8.8 miles west will take about 3 hours and 40 minutes, followed by a 6.3 mile tramp through the forest that will take 5 hours and 15 minutes. Long story short, if they leave at dawn, they will have enough daylight to reach the entrance to the prison in daylight. Let me know when you all are ready to go.

Any thoughts on whether we bring our mounts? If so, should we try to find someone in town to hire to take care of them while we're in the prison?

Do we need anything other than a grappling hook? Maybe a mining hammer, pick, and/or crowbar)? Does anyone want to carry a 10' pole around?

If it's not a long way, we might be better off stabling the mounts with the Sambords. Otherwise we have to hobble and guard them outside the prison...

That's my thinking. As long as we can carry all the stuff we need (or want to bring back), the mounts are safer at home. But can we get there and bring stuff back without mounts?

How much "stuff" do we expect to find in a witch's prison? I can imagine the things we find are going to be pretty value-dense.

Just making sure you were asking the rest of the group instead of me. The only information I can give is what Chet told the party - there is a strange, large blue woman at the entrance offering rewards for items found within.

Everyone ready to go?

Yup, asking everyone else. I'd never expect a DM to answer that question.

Still not sure if we're taking mounts or not, though.

Looks like we'll get this started. Are Arnulf and Angus taking their mounts?

Ugh. I hate this decision. If you bring them with, you need someone to guard them, and even a hireling guard probably isn't enough to survive most random encounters. If you don't, you'll move slower and probably need to bring something back that will make you wish you had the mounts.

Also, Angus keeps a lot of his regular gear on Beelzebub (food, blankets, etc.) so he can travel lighter. If he has to carry most of that stuff, we'll move more slowly. I don't have time to do the math—would we still get to the prison in a day if we don't have our mounts?

What would it cost to hire a couple of guards to look after the mounts while we're in the prison?

Yenny moves slowly. Angus won't slow the party.

Yeah, Yenny's got it right. Chet recalls that a small group of Sambords escorted them to the hills where the prison was rumored to be. They encountered an ogre while Chet and Tempus were in the prison, and aren't comfortable with a group of less than 4 or 5 for hire.

Angus is able to make contact with a group of four men with chain mail, swords, and hand axes. Since they come equipped, their services would be more expensive. 2 gp a day per person seems like a fair offer under the circumstances, but he can offer whatever he would like.

I guess we can probably go without the mounts.
