Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Hah? HAH?? Hyde becomes agitated. "Detain??" I heard that word before, yeahh, just before folks' heads be put on my block! I know the Magistrate, me and him, we be good pals, yeahh. If Hellebore be needin' to see him, I'll be goin' with her. I respect you and your callin', yeahh, but ain't no one gonna disrespect this Priestess with me bein' around, no. She be the only reason most of us, and many of you, be alive, and she be unda my protection. The short Half-Orc puffs up somewhat to show his determination in the matter.

Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
OK, folks, here's what's going to happen. Hellebore tries to cast a spell. This will alarm the guards who will rush to tackle her as Angus tries to stumble into her. Qatkir and the eagle will not take kindly to this and will move to attack.
Yenny will have just departed, but the others are free to act. The PCs will know that attacking the guards is a serious offense...and know that the animals attacking the guards isn't a good thing either.
So, Angus, Hellebore and Yenny are spoken for. Hyde, Galan, Arnulf and Dandelion can act. Please include initiative rolls in your post. I'll leave a window of 24 hours to act and then will update.

So much for Angus hoping he could intervene before the guards noticed what Hellebore was doing.
Speaking of which, would Angus have any chance of seeing that the guards know what's going on as soon as he does? If so, he'd just straight-out attempt to bowl her over instead of trying the "tripping" ruse.

He would have seen them advancing towards her. He would know that their weapons are sheathed and that they're just trying to subdue her. He could probably guess they were trying to tackle her, so if he wants to change his move he can. Roll still stands, though.

One of the guards has his hand on her cloak, though, so I'm guessing he doesn't have far to advance.
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Galan draws his sword, and stands away from the eventual melee. He moves quietly around the back side of the guards.
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
HEY!! Hyde jumps between the Guards and Hellebore. I said we be goin' together, hah? Turn her loose!
I'm playing Hyde as if he hadn't noticed any mischief on our part.

Heavy footsteps can be heard rushing from the room.
"Yenny! Wait for me!"

Dandelion will make no aggressive action against the guards.
Dang it Hellebore. This is worse than serving hibiscus tea without cream or molasses.
She will do her best to stand back and watch.

Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
OK folks, I don't want this turning into a total shitshow. It just so happens that Hellebore Marullus is taking a break from this game, so I'm going to fast forward through this.
Smelling trouble brewing, Yenny and the invisible Arnulf make for Castleman.
The farmer laughs heartily upon hearing Angus' story. "Right up their arse! I'll bet -"
but before he can finish, all hell breaks loose. Hellebore begins to chant, waving her arms in a rhythmic pattern. The three guards and Angus fall upon her, tackling her to the ground and interrupting her enchantment. The eagle and wolf, seeing their druidic friend under attack, bite at the guards. One holds down the other halfling while the other two fend off the animal attacks. One sustains a bite wound from Qatkir and another is raked by the eagle's talons before they are beaten into submission. A large crowd has gathered, confused by the proceedings.
The guards, angry and frightened now, haul Hellebore to her feet. The townsfolk see Hellebore, a town hero just weeks ago, in restraints. "We're hauling her off" pants one of the guards. "Be about your business." A dozen more guards, summoned by the fourth guard that left moments earlier, appear. Aphoz, Arnulf's mentor, is with them too. "Your restraint is acknowledged. She'll come to no real harm, but do not expect to see her animals again." The animals are gathered and taken off, and with little fanfare, the crowd disperses.
Unable to locate the captain, Arnulf and Yenny return.
Where to now?

Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
As the crowd disperses, Angus stands stunned, a sour look on his face.
"What the . . . what just happened?" he says. He's so gobsmacked he can't even come up with a good epithet. "She could get a mite cranky, that hobbit, but I ain't never reckoned her for someone what would take on the town guards." He shakes his head slowly. "It's them animals I feel awfullest for. Ain't their fault she acted like they was people, bringing 'em around city folks."
Patting Beelzebub on the neck and taking his reins, the ranger heads to the stables and then to see what the sage can make of the book from No Go.

Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Galan follows, looking for an opportunity to free her........
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
AAAAA!! I tolt yous, I'm coming with her, hah? Let go of her hair! Ain't no call for rudeness, no! Hyde follows along, his constant haranguing of the Guards echoing about the area, but offers no physical intervention. I'm tellin' yous, she be a hero, yeahh! She could burn alla yous to the ground, and ya noticed she ain't doin' that, hah?
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Yenny takes a long look after the guards and goes with Angus to the sage place. "Not surprising I guess. I hope they treat her okay and vice versa."
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
A shadow breaks off from the surrounding gloom of a nearby alley and falls into step alongside Angus and Yenny. Under a nondescript brown cloak, her raspy voice and uncouth inflection are immediately obvious as belonging to Ilfrien the elf. "If I'd known that was the way things were headed, I'd have signed on to the city watch a month ago," she mutters, chuckling to herself.

Angus glances at Ilfrien and scoffs with a sidewise smirk. Yep, it's definitely been that kind of a day.
"Oh, there you are," he says mock-nonchalantly. "You missed all kinds of fun. We done killed some dead folk, pissed off the Sambords again—we're so good at that I'm thinkin' on making it our mission statement—met Mama Frogmorton, escorted some hoity toities down to Sambord—pissed them off, too—and got us a message, in the form of getting attacked by more dead folks, from 'Saphrax of the Herulics,' whoever in tarnation that is. Name mean anything to you? Oh, and then Hellebore went batshit crazy. Er. Than usual, I mean."
"So what've you been up to?" he asks. "Or do elves just need three weeks to take a dump?"

"Ain't holding my breath on that," says the ranger. "Hyde's right. She's dangerous, and now she's done made herself an enemy of the city. I don't reckon they're gonna be keen on letting a dangerous enemy of the city run free. Not soon, nohow."onlyme wrote:Dandelion shakes her head.

Ilfrien chuckles. "Taking a dump is what it's felt like. Smelly place, at the very least. No--after it was clear someone was after us, I decided to go underground and see what I could find out, but either my people skills are rusty or the ones I managed to collar didn't know anything." She shrugs. "Well, when someone makes a move again, that's when I'll find out what I need to know. I figured you guys were making a big enough ruckus it was only a matter of time."
Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Angus smiles at Ilrien's "people skills" comment. Then he nods sagely—or what he thinks looks sagely, anyway. "That could've been a silver lining to Hellebore getting hauled up before the magistrate. Whoever's agin' us and with the goblins might've been real interested in that, I reckoned. Would've been worth a slap on the wrist for hurting a man's pride." He shakes his head and sighs.

Re: Chapter 11 - Back to No-Go (Knob Forest)
Hellebore, her arms held tight by several guards, is escorted to the center of the city where the magistrates hold court. She is stripped of her spell components. Hyde harangues the guards the whole way. Most remain stonefaced as they execute their duty, but he does receive a few apologetic glances from those reluctantly executing their duty.
The half-orc makes quite a scene, and a swarm of curious onlookers follow him. The commotion helps mask the panting and wheezing of the invisible Galan, trying his best to keep up. Once they reach the court, Hyde is barred from entering, but Galan is able to sneak in undetected.
There they wait for quite awhile as the diplomat is summoned. And, it turns out, Syvva, the leader of Alleborg’s druidic order. He takes responsibility for Hellebore, and the magistrate accepts his proposed punishment of revoking her training privileges for a half year. This maneuver comes at great risk to the druidic order, for if they fail to execute this punishment the entire order will be dissolved (they are not terribly popular). The magistrate orders Hellebore to offer an unconditional apology to the envoy for the “wound” her eagle caused. She will be held in gaol, her bank account frozen, and her animal companions sequestered until she does so. She must also pay a week’s wages to the guards for the damage the eagle and wolf inflicted upon them.
The magistrate makes it clear that past heroic deeds have resulted in leniency, and such affronts will not be so easily forgiven in the future.
Galan manages to sneak back out of the court and rejoin the others to report his findings.
Meanwhile, the others head to the sage with the book discovered in the ruined church's crawlspace. update coming later
