Dr. Morgan:

Frank nods emphatically at Mulder's suggestion, eager to be gone from this nightmarish place.

Marius Albertoni

The hunter's sense of disgust for this cult grows steadily by the minute. "I'm starting to think Archer had the right idea. Let's cuff everyone we can find, I wanna see them rot behind bars."

Dr. Morgan:

"Well said Mr. Albertoni. I particularly mistrust the young lady, Asenath, whom I just know framed Agent Gibson. Let us leave this vile hole in the ground and return upstairs to see if we can find anything else that might provide answers."

The investigators leave the basement and explore the house and its meandering additions. The other BOI agents have searched the main, original house, finding Chertovski's bedroom, guest bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and dining room. Nothing incriminating was found.

The additions to the house are perplexing. Stairwells rise into solid ceiling. Doors open to walls. Windows cover solid walls. Odd and unorthodox angles abound.

Dr. Morgan:

Bewildered by the design of the bizarre domicile, Dr. Morgan asserts, "With all of these deadends, doors and windows opening upon walls, and strange angles, I am led to believe that there may be more than one gate in this twisted place. What do you think, Reginald?" Frank looks at the book dealer inquisitively.

"It's a distinct possibility," says Reginald, taking in the weirdness of the Shunned House. "But I won't try to look for another one, at least not today. The ritual can be ... disturbing. And if that she-creature is still there...." His voice trails off.

Marius Albertoni

Marius moves quickly through the maze of a house, searching for any residents to detain. "Curse this place, a man could get lost in here."

Reginald will make a Cthulhu Mythos roll as well, to try to make sense of the weirdness.
Cthulhu Mythos (08) [1d100] = 35
Spot Hidden (50) [1d100] = 62

Frank is also trying to desperately find logic in the bizzare design.
- Spot Hidden Check (45): [1d100] = 53

- Occult (25): [1d100] = 75

- Cthulhu Mythos (02): [1d100] = 33

...and continues to stay bewildered.

The investigators spend four hours searching the expansive premises of the deceased Konstantin Chertovski. Many of the newer rooms are spartanly furnished if at all.

Several rooms contain dozens of sleeping bags and are littered with refuse, as if a mass of men had been camping there. The fireplace is filled with ashes, burnt wood remnants, and chicken bones.

Elsewhere behind a locked door (one of only a few in the whole place) the BOI men batter down is an empty room whose plastered white walls are completely filled with scraggly writing in the Xaqloui tongue. Reginald is awed by the sight. It will require some time to study. Agent Mulder has pictures taken. The only item in the whole 20'x20' room is a telescope in the middle of the floor, pointing out an unusually large 8'x8' skylight into the heavens.

Down a flight of stairs there is an odd dead-end. As they have been doing much now, the men search for secret doors. There actually is one here, and it opens into a dungeon of perversity. Tables, padded chairs, cages, chains, shackles, whips, instruments of pain and pleasure litter the chamber. There are blood stains on the floor, tatters of women's clothes, and scratch marks in many places.

Another curiosity behind a locked door is a photography studio, darkroom, and an adjacent art painting studio.

Most unsettling, given the overall nature of this Shunned House, is what appears to be a children's play nursery filled with toys and such for, perhaps, a young toddler. Adjacent is a children's bedroom, another bedroom with clothing for a young woman (a nanny or governess? muses Agent Mulder), a kitchen, and down a short hallway from the kitchen a butcher's room and freezer filled with meat portions of animal carcasses. The investigators aren't certain the animal types.
Feel free to explore or ask questions on any of the described spots.

Dr. Morgan makes his way to the photography studio and darkroom. He is both hesitant and curious to see if any photographs are to be found.

Dr. Clarke:

David is intrigued by the lone telescope. He is adamant that no one touches it. "Don't touch it! It may be a clue as to what Carcosa was looking for in the night sky. Remember he met with Mr. Harlow Shapley astronomy professor from Columbia University. Perhaps the telescope is fixed on the celestial body that he was interested in." Dr. Clarke takes out his notebook and takes notes on the position of the telescope. Noting it's angle and direction. He looks around the room and through the large skylight. "Which way is north? This house has me turned around."

Reginald Wilkins, bookdealer and occultist
Reginald makes his own paper copies of the Xaqloui writings, in addition to the photos taken by the BOI. If he has any thoughts about them, or indeed the rest of the house, he keeps them to himself for now.

Marius Albertoni

Marius takes some time to sift through the rooms strewn with sleeping bags and refuse, looking for objects to identify any of the occupants personally or ethnically. "Looks like he was running a lodging house for the immigrants who frequent this place, but look at all the sleeping bags. There must've been dozens of men, but where'd they all go? Could this many people be moved around in one of them gates? Or maybe this was the pig pen for his butchery down below…"

In the room of Xaqloui- inscribed walls Reginald takes note, filling the pages in his journal. A shiver runs up his spine. He sweats as he unconsciously translates certain phrases in his head, while others only hint at terrible revelations that must surely be untrue. Primordial legends garbled by his incomplete knowledge. Yes, misinterpretations, let it be that. Reginald stops thinking and just tries to copy.

Dr. Clarke examines the telescope.

"North is that way," says Marius pointing, his hunter's training and observation of the current position of the sun showing the north direction.

Dr. Clarke looks through the telescope but the daylight prevents any view of celestial bodies.
I'm no astronomer, but taking exact recordings to replicate the telescope's position and coordinates in the sky feels like it needs a successful Astronomy skill roll. All in the room may try. The base skill is 1%.

In the photo gallery Dr. Morgan finds paintings on canvas signed by "R. Pickman." They are done in oils in a realistic style, depictions of people in ordinary settings including an underground subway station, lakeside picnic, a family at dinner, an ocean side pastoral, a city alley, and others. However, each picture has the same horrifying element: ghoul-like creatures snatching and eating the humans.

The darkroom contains recently developed photos of various ancient artifacts. Masks, bowls, daggers and other blades. "Are these the stolen museum pieces?" Agent Mulder checks his notes.

The darkroom also contains a roll of undeveloped film.

Dr. Morgan:

Haunted by the grotesque paintings, Frank shudders and moves on to the darkroom. When he spots the undeveloped roll of film, he searches for a canister or container that he can store it in so that it does not become exposed.

Turning to Agent Mulder, "Yes, those are most assuredly the stolen pieces. That is definitely incriminating evidence, no? And what do you make of this?" He holds up the canister containing the film. "It too might contain something vital to our investigation."

Dr. Clarke:

"Thank you Marcus. Hopefully the positioning of the telescope and it's angle will be enough information for someone with knowledge of the celestial heavens, for I have no knowledge on the subject." Dr. Clark meticulously uses his archeology mapping skills to mark the exact position of the telescope as if it was an piece of broken pottery at an archeology dig site.
