"Oh, this doesn't need to be a race. How about you have to finish an ale within a 20 minutes or you're out!"
"Getting up to empty your bladder's fine, but you leave the ale at the table. Also...vomiting is a weakness and automatically disqualifies you!"

Bertram will have to wait until your next contest. He comes into Vaul late on the 30th. I didn't want you to think the other adventuring parties weren't interested in joining.AleBelly wrote:March 30
Varas looks incredibly happy as he stands up in the tavern. "Alright. Who's here for the ale drinking contest?!" he yells.

Just let me know when you're comfortable with your signups and we'll get this show on the road.

Anyone who expressed interest at some point is already in, so Varas is ready to get started!
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
OK--are there any prizes? Go ahead and cross-post with me, I'm just going to lay out the mechanics for how this will work over the next few minutes.
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Drinking Contest Relevant Rules:
This is a contest to determine who can drink the most beers overall with a time limit given of 20 minutes per beer.
When it is time for an individual to drink a beer, the following happens--
1. The drinker indicates whether it will be a chug, a quick drink, a normal drink, or a leisurely drink.
Chug = base 1 minute, +5 penalty to CON test
Quick Drink = base 5 minutes, +2 penalty to CON test
Normal Drink = base 10 minutes, no modifier
Leisurely Drink = base 15 minutes, -2 bonus to CON test
2. The drinker makes a CON test based on the modifier for the kind of drink they are taking.
3. If the CON test succeeds, the drink is finished with no ill effects, and time elapses equal to base time plus delay time (see below). If the total time taken exceeds 20 minutes, the drink is negated and does not count, and the drinker is disqualified.
4. If the CON test fails, each drink including the current one for the rest of the contest will require an additional 1d3 minutes to drink (delay time, rolled each time so it's always random), and a save vs. Poison is required. If the save fails, the character's CON is reduced by 1d3 for the remainder of the contest, affecting all future tests.
So, for each drink the drinker should do the following:
1. Declare drinking speed
2. Make the appropriate CON test
3. Make delay time rolls as appropriate
4. Make save vs. Poison as appropriate
5. Make CON reduction roll as appropriate
After each drink, I will update the number of successful drinks and everyone's condition.
Any questions before we get started?

Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Fun! Are we assuming the nose touching will be successful?
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
If the CON drops to 0, we'll assume one of the following: failure to touch nose, vomiting, or passing out. Depending on how many beers have actually been drunk.
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Or some combination of all of those.

Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Val raises his mug, "Allow me to start this competition off with a bang!" Val then begins rapidly chugging the brew at an alarming rate.
Chugging!
Val CON(12): [1d20] = 3+5 Penalty which brings me up to 8 as my total!

Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
I'm assuming the drinkers will want to handle their own rolls so they can add flavor, smack talk, etc. Let me know if this is not the case for one or more of you.

Varas shakes his head at the elf. "Must be his first drinking contest." He takes a leisurely drink, but is quite astonished at the elf's ability.
Leisurely drink [1d20-2] = 7-2 = 5

Olympia grabs the ale eagerly. Seeing Val chug it down, she's not sure she can follow suit--it's been so long since her drinking days at the holy school, the weekly clerics' keg partes. She decides to drink it quickly, but not as quick as the elf.
CON(11): [1d20] = 15+2 penalty for quick drink = 17 << I'll put the penalty/bonus in my roll next time
Drinktime delay: [1d3] = 2
Poison save(11): [1d20] = 14
Elapsed minutes = 7

Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Great, thanks--all, please do put the modifier in your drinking roll rather than adding it in text.
Re: Briarbeard Tavern (Vaul) - II
Halfred Thistlebottom wanders in, blinking in the dim light. He wanders over to the bar and clambers up on a stool, turning to watch the drinking contest with evident interest.

Valorei takes another mug and begins to drink quickly, but somehow errors greatly and spins the cup wrong, catching more than he bargained for...
Val Quickly Drinking CON(12): [1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20
Delay Time: [1d3] = 2
Valorei Save VS Poison: [1d20] = 6
