DM House Rules & Resources

#1 Post by GreyWolfVT »

You can use 2nd edition books. I allow the complete guide books, & Player Option books.

Allowed Races: Gnomes (Subraces allowed), Dwarves (Subraces allowed), Halflings (Subraces allowed), Elves & Drow (Subraces allowed), Humans (subraces allowed), Half-Orc (Subraces allowed), Half-Elf (Subraces allowed).

Allowed Classes: Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Mage, Illusionist, Cleric, Druid, Thief, Specialist Mages, Monk, Alchemist.

Not Allowed Races: Half-Giant, Half-Ogre, Half-Dragon, Tiefling.
Not Allowed Classes: Psionic & Assassin.

There very well might be a significantly longer list of classes and races I'm not remembering off the top of my head. Just run it by me in a PM and I will say yes or no.

Alignments Allowed: CG, NG, LG, TN, NG, NE, CG, CN

Not Allowed Alignments: LE & CE

I also have no issues with spells from Unearthed Arcana provided I go 1st Edition. I would prefer to leave out classes and races that are found in the GreyHawk, DragonLance books namely sticking to the more core type classes and races. No oriental class or race except Monks are allowed.

Death: Characters are knocked out at 0 HP, they bleed out 1 hp per combat round until someone heals or binds the wound. Character death results at -10 HP. Once dead a character can be revived or resurrected but it is very costly at the local church, unless a character is able to reach the level to cast the spells.

Rest HP Recovery: I know in the 2e book you get 1 hp while resting 3 hp for complete bed rest. While camped for the night or resting in an Inn for an evening not on watch I will give PC's back 6 hp. If you are on guard/watch then you will get the 3 hp the book states. While travelling peacefully with no attacks you gain back 1 hp in 8 hours of travel.

Combat
Initiative: I do a group init. I'll roll for the PC's and the monsters on init. Each round gets a new init.
To Hit Crits: Natural 19 or 20 is Critical and does double damage. You just double the damage already rolled not roll twice.
Mechanics will be that I'll just tally up all the combat damage in a round summary post.

Dual Class and Multi-Class characters are perfectly fine.

Mapping is not required of the players as I will be using roll20.net to map out mostly battle layouts unless the module has provided me with a map. Generally it looks as if the module has a significant amount of maps that I can share once we are in the area that the map covers.

HP I normally try to keep track of the players HP but I found in my other game it is easier to have the player keep that up to date on the character sheet. It's a lot easier for me to reference.

Point Blank Ranged Attack Rule: If you are using weapon specialization and from the AD&D 2e PHB if you specialize in a ranged weapon you have a new NWP called point blank shot. But I am initiating my own rule if you did not do this you can take a shot from the same point blank ranges they list in the PHB based upon Bow or Crossbow with a negative to hit penalty for not having specialized. The penalty to hit will be a -3 no different than if you were firing at medium range or long range.

Point Blank is actually if you specialized in ranged weapons but it makes it so that you have a point blank range of 6-30 feet and gain a +2 to hit at point blank. Or if you didn't do this I will make a house rule already there is a -2 for mid range ranged attacks and -5 for long range ranged shots per the PHB lets add in if you are attempting a point blank shot and do not have the specialization you take a -3 to the shot.

Critical Misses: when you miss you can roll a 1d100 or percentile die and post in the same thread or another in the IC topic of the combat.

XP Bonuses: aside from the normal % bonuses that some classes or races get for certain primary stats. I award bonus xp to Fighter class for kills in battle, Rogue class kills by backstabbing or other skill use, mages kills by spells in battle. The same XP amount for each is a bonus of 25xp additional per kill.

PC Death, Near Death & Healing:
A PC does not die unless it hits -10 HP and has not been healed by spell, potion (or other magical healing) or by First Aid. Any healing made that does not get the PC to 0 still raises their PC to 0 HP and stops all bleeding wounds from causing a -1 hp drop per round if in combat. All healing after will cure the PC the HP rolled.

Critical Hits and Fumbles:
Using the table I have the Player's may roll a 1d100 and I will dictate what the table says that Fumble or Critical Hit does in addition to the double dmg PC's deal from a natural 19 or 20 die roll minus any modifiers. NPC's and monsters will not get the critical hit table results they will however suffer the fumble roll results.

NWP (Non-Weapon Proficiency): The non-weapon proficiency skills will be used not constantly but please select them they come in handy. In certain situations they can be applied to help get a task done or accomplish aid to the group. I might consider bonus xp if someone successfully uses this in a situation that it helps. ;)

Copied over from Character Creation thread

Roller Game ID:182

As briefly covered in the character submission topic. Don't use the stat roller in the USS roller for your characters instead use the macro [4d6c1] for all stats take max HP for your first level. Arrange stats as you'd like. Re-roll anything that is below a 9. Characters will start at level 3. Characters will also start with the following money to purchase items 200gp each. All players start with basic clothing, belt, backpack, small belt pouch, tools of the class trade such as thief tools, or spell book, or holy symbol, as well as spell ingredients.

Mages: if anyone makes one pick 5 spells you want in your book and roll to learn them if you fail the roll then you cannot learn that spell. You may have a max of 5 spells for each level you can cast known in your spellbook. I will give you and bonus spells you get based upon your stats.

Clerics: you get the spells as indicated for your level. If you have a proficiency to cast additional spells then I will grant that. Gods that are available if you wish to openly state the god to which you prey can be found here under 2e deities: http://dungeons.wikia.com/wiki/DnDWiki:List_of_deities

Fighter Classes: can specialize in one weapon no more.

Alignments: Based upon race and class I'd prefer no evil alignments but if say an assassin has to be of evil alignment then so be it but not CE.I have changed my rules for alignments. Essentially NE and LE are allowed and CE is the only alignment not allowed.

Everyone will get one magical item once characters are approved I am going to take out my deck of magical items and randomly give out one item to each character.
