11-Skullport-Trip 2- After the Fat Man!

#1 Post by Darkmane »

You pony up your gold(172gold each or 17pp) to the candle lady and purchase your healing potions. Again she brings you to the confusing room of mirrors, this time the real mirror is in a different spot, hidden amongst a hundred copies of itself.

She says some quiet magical words, and the portal is opened. E other side of the mirror is near pitch black, you will need lth sources.

You each enter the mirror and feel a second of dislocation, falling, and then your a standing on firm ground in an inky black street. You can look back for a few momenta into the candle lady's room of mirrors, and the brightness of it seems intolerable. Then the magic fades like a curtain and you are in Skullport once more.

In front of your group a ways are a pile of shapes, sleeping piled upon one another in the dark. They look like humans, maybe, and one of them sluggishly moved an arm before settling once more. The way to the main trade road in Skullport takes you away from this pile of people, if you decide to leave them asleep...

Tantos Vek, failed paladin:

Knowing where they were going, Vek would have altered his appearance so he'd better blend in with the scum and villainy of Skullport, and encourage the others to do so as well.

He rasps a reply to Roseheart and the others. "There was a merc company attached to a tavern down here. We might want to enlist their aid.

"Then, with them or without them, we watch the Fatman's home for a while. See what we learn. Compare notes. Then figure out the best time and place to enter with the phasing potion, and let the rest of us in. How does that sound?"

This is the quick overview of Skullport that you got from a mercenary recruiter:

Next, you need to know a little about the geography of this place. It looks a bit like an "L", and he quickly sketches something for you to look at. The bottom of the "L" plunges out into the river Sargauth and is the main connection between this port and the rest of the world. Skull Island, where they hold slaves, is out on this river, only accessable by boat. Leading further back into the the caves you get to what folks call the Lower Port area, which is all the buildings close down by the water. You have to come back further along the "L" to get to the Trade Lanes. That's where we are right now, and this area is the safest place in Skull Port, if there is any safe place. Finally, if you go further away from the water, you get to the the place they call the Heart. It is a place where the "nobility"of this dank city live. Many of the buildings are built in and around the stalactites and stalagmites of this cave. It is home to mind flayers, and even weirder things. Don't go in there unless you have good reason to.

Both the Heart and Trade Lanes are built into tall caves, and folks have used the vertical space pretty well, so this city can be extremely confusing to navigate. Also, if you wander outside of the bounds of the city, the tentative peace caused by the "Skulls" will end, and you will find yourself treading the halls of the Undermountain Dungeon. Skullport is named after a group of floating skulls, magical creatures of tremendous power which rule this place. They mostly are ignorant of events that occur within the city, but cause a ruckus, or murder too many people and you might catch their attention. They dole out a strange justice, cursing, or teleporting most people who catch their attention - to where, no one knows! Most skulkers won't even speak of the skulls, they live in such fear of them. Anyway, I digress, if you are interested I could take you either to the mercenary "lords" for employment or over to the slave markets, although I'm still wondering what reason you would have for going there... I'm hoping I can persuade you to join a mercenary group, and get a commission.

There is also a piece of paper given to you by "Ben".

It had a name on it, Yatos, and the scribbled message, meet in deepfires, will secure transport.

Deepfires is one of the only decent inns in Skullport, you've been there before. You might be able to find your way again...

In the meantime, your voices have been waking up the huddled group of to your side, you hear some strange noises coming from the pile of bodies. Also from up above you grunting humanoids are walking along a catbridg perhaps 20-30 feet over your heads. They appear to be carrying something heavy, just above you!

Garl listened intently trying to stay in the shadows. When everyone moved on he stayed for a moment and then followed as if he was stalking the party.

You move forward into the city, heading down a gradual slope toward the trade way, through a forest of narrow alleys. At one point you are forced to climb up the side of a building and use a catwalk for a while, walking along ramshackle balconies to stop from backtracking around the deaed end.

Eventually you make it to the trade way, which is lit by torches which reflect off the wet rocky floor of the cavern, and in the films of slime along the ground.

This street is busy as usual, a constant parade of debauchery reminding you that you are in a place of evil, and all manner of creatures from trolls, to what look like demons are moving about the streets.

It takes you a while but you cover hip as best as possible and move toward deepfires, finally finding the three story stone building and entering. A warm rush of air meets you, fighting out the damp and chill of the cave. A lower tap room is busy, and there are folks moving up and down the stairs to the right which lead to the rooms.

what next? Do you wait for this Yatos, leave a message at the desk, head down and get drinks? ;)

Glimble considers leaving a note at the desk "Hmm we should leave a message at the desk but then again what should we say in the message? In this place chances of the wrong person getting that message is highly likely... I know I'm a spiritual type mayhap we should go get a drink while we wait?"

Glimble smiles at Vek "Didn't have to do that but thank you Vek." the gnome sips his drink and finds a comfy seat to wait in.

Roseheart will make his way to the bar eventually - first passing by any fire that may be blazing to shed the damp for a moment, all the while surveying the room. Once at the bar, he'll order a mild wine.

After some time passes, and the time seems right to ask, he'll inquire of the barkeep of any local shops that may offer weapons or armor of the magical variety. Particularly those that may be interested in a trade of information or otherwise....
