UnderMountain Locations, Notes

I'll be using this thread to keep track of areas that PC's have explored and any important notes about the dungeon.


UnderMountain Level 1:
  1. Forest of Pillars - first major room after entering the dungeon through the Yawning Portal, leads in 3 different directions into the dungeon - moving S, W, and N away from Sandy Portal Room.
  2. Hall of Broken Mirrors - this hallway heads west out of the Forest of Pillars. There were broken shards of glass all along the path, and they crackle under foot creating a LOT of noise. Also at least some of the shards of glass are magical and seem evil. At the end of the Hall you can head north or south. To the south there are three branches, the route to the north quickle turns back east.
  3. Orcs with Bugs - party met 5 orcs in this room, 1 fell victim to a failed attempt at surgically removing a stirge with an axe. The others ran amuck with the party. They then battled 2 bugbears and 4 more orcs in a hallway near room 5 and room 3a.
    Room 3a - Soiled Packs - PC's found several packs, soiled with orc urine, there were 5 good torches in a bundles, and
    some small demonic figurines.
  4. Room 4 - not explored yet
  5. Room 5 - Demise of the Black Banners - the 7 members of the Black Members met their deaths in this room at the hands of evil humanoids (orcs and bugbears). The PC's found some key items and were going to bring these men back to the surface for burial when Tella and Glimble ran into a "teleport trap" in the dead end hallway nearby.
  6. Area 6 - ColdBlackWater - White Stone Block Trap - Accessed through the "teleport trap" near Room 5. The PC's fought a massive prehistoric fish in cold water. The found themselves trapped in a group of rooms, by a large white stone block which fell from the ceiling. They triggered a lever on a statue of a fish-human hybrid, which released 3 strange magical skeletons which could teleport and release red bolts of light (magic missiles) from their eyes! Muriel found a chest full of magical scrolls in a room full of sand. Finally the white stone block lifted after almost 2 days, and they ran into the Irlingstar Trio.
  7. Area 7 - Red Dragon and Fire Orcs After exploring to the southeast, they ran into a fleeing Trevor Irlingstar. His dwarf companions were killed by a red dragon. The PC's ignored him at their peril (mostly cuz he seemed crazy) and they ran into ~24-36 orcs & a small (still around 20 feet long) red dragon, which seemed to have some kind of spell power creating an orange light around him. They killed around 2/3rds of the orcs (ironically mostly due to a well-timed flaming sphere spell) and then Trevor shut, and wizard locked, the door to the hallway and they fled from the dungeon.
  8. Area 8 - Snake Lady The snake lady statue in this room has a connection to wild magic power and fires bolts of energy at folks who tarry in this space. She is a "landmark" of sorts for dungeoneers.
  9. Area O - The Glow Orcs This area originally had some orcs cooking, there are two pillars in this room, and it has small vent holes in the ceiling.
  10. Area 9 - The Three Kings (statues) Three large statues in this room, looking forever east, with masks of intense contemplation. The tunnels in this area connect to this room several times, weaving around it in a maze-like method. The second time the PC's came here they found a dozen goblins, and defeated the treacherous hobgoblin who set them aflame in the secret hallway nearby.
  11. Area 10&11 - Pale Statues and Drow Altar In the hallway north of the Three Kings, the PC's were beset by drow elves. They defeated them, and a summoned demon, with the aid of Rhaeggef and rescued a boy named Wally. The destroyed the drow altar, but were too weak to explore this area further, it was a massive room like a football field and had chambers coming off it.
  12. Area 12 - The Lightning Giant - The PC's found a new entrance to the dungeon from a sewer entrance in the dock ward, through the sewers, then old sunken cellars, leading below into a opening above the lightning giant. The giant sends out blasts of lightning every few seconds but there are portions of the room that the blasts aren't usually sent.
  13. Area 13 - Fabric Room The PC's have found several stores of bulk goods, fabric, liquor, etc, protected by orcs armed with magic. A wizard known as the Fat Man may be behind a slavery ring in the dungeon. Not much is known about him, although the orcs believe he lives in the "Skull City" in the third level of the dungeon.
  14. Area DD - Dragon Lair Far to the south of the well, through a twisting area occupied by the "Fire Orcs" is a huge 1000 foot long cavern, occupied by a huge red dragon named "Vrax". This dragon killed Ganon, Thorax, and Cormack. In addition, there is a "Cult of the Dragon", a cabal of evil wizards interested in this dragon. They are trying to make it immortal through "undeath" whatever that means.
  15. Area 14 - The teleporting stairwell. This stairway seems to go down forever, but after you head down perhaps 12 or so steps, you are teleported to a small corridor in an unknown portion of the dungeon.
