Vanis puts his hands in his pockets, trying to act nonchalently and closing in on the guard doors from the side. If things turn sour, he'll jump at them from behind and hack them into pieces.

That sounds reasonable, thinks Vanis. Actually, now that the idea sprung to mind, it seems a bit absurd to not run away properly.
And just like that, Vanis lets go of the cart and starts sprinting to safety.

Vanis keeps running while yelling gibberish about rats and walls.

Vanis is pushing and screaming. Like, slow, low tone screaming. "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"

Hey, I'm back! Sorry I had a lot of stuff to deal with and completely forgot to come and check how things were going. I'm gonna add "answering on the board" on my schedule so I don't make anybody wait or anything.

Option 2 is for real fools heroes, so that's my vote.

Vanis leans on his shovel which he grips with calloused hands, a shaggy beard giving him an air of ruggedness and experience. I'm fine with looking at the floor in search of trapdoors all day, but I have to say, at some point I might find myself acquainted with all those bloody tiles if it goes on....

Vanis takes a look around camp and goes to find something useful to do: fetch gear for busy soldiers, polish wood, clean stuff, etc. He keeps an eye out for his buddies and mumbles about bad life decisions and their effect on one's physical and mental health.

Vanis, being a man of reasonable disposition, takes a deep breath and gladly hears out his companion's suggestion, and starts to run as fast as he can, away from the booming voice which, to say the least, sounds to him like bad news.
